The East Coast Football League
Welcome to the 2023 edition of the ECFL, our 26th anniversary season. This year we are again playing with 40 teams and 2 conferences with 4 divisions of 5 teams. The top two division winners from each conference will receive a bye in the first round of the playoffs. The other four division winners, three wildcards from each conference and three double wildcards from either division will also enter the playoffs. The complete format is posted on ECFL playoff central.
I will once again use the web site for updates, lines and to post information. CPD will once again handle league finances which should mean you will get paid in a timely manner. All financial questions should be directed to him. CPD receives a $100 discount on his entry fee for his help. Matt Carroll will also receive a discount of a $100 this year for all the work he does with the spreadsheets.
Most of you already understand the ECFL but the basics of the league are listed below . The entry fee this year will again be $250. The starting date for the league this year will be week 2 of the NFL season.
Each player in the ECFL picks the winners of every NFL game each week according to the point spreads posted on the website by Wednesday each week . Each game of the week will be given a point value. Your points are then added up for the week and then added to your season total. For example if there are 15 games in a week, you will designate 1 game as your five point game (the game you like the best), 2 games as four point games, 3 as three point games, 4 as four point games, and 5 as one point games. The total possible points for the week would be 37. If there are not 15 games in a week the point setup will be adjusted, usually by eliminating one of the 4 point games. You are not allowed to change your picks once they are submitted, but I will allow you to make corrections if you picked both sides of a game or left something out.
The money will be distributed like this for the 2022 season. The winner of each week will receive $100. If two people tie for the weekly high score the $100 will carry over to the next week. Each conference champion will receive $350, the 6 other division winners will receive $200 and the nine wildcards take home $125. The remainder of the financial breakdown is listed on our homepage.
Tiebreaker - Most importantly, all ties make the playoffs so we could have more than 17 players in the playoffs. Playoff seeds (including the money for Conference Champion, Division Champion or Wildcard) will be determined by #1 high score in week 16 #2 total games picked correct #3 5 point game correct, 4 point games correct, 3 point games correct.....and if all else fails league seniority. We will also carry an extra team into the post season in the event the tie occurs as a final playoff spot. The tiebreaker will also be used to determine the weekly winner if needed, in the final week of the regular season. In the event the tie breaker can't break a tie for the weekly winner, the weekly winner money will be split.
